John William Waterhouse (1849-1917) was a recognized painter of classical, literary and historical subjects. Waterhouse was born in Rome, Italy within a family of artists; his father was a talent painter too. He belonged to the Pre-Raphaelite movement and developed hundreds of Oil paintings during his life. In 1870, Waterhouse entered to the Royal Academy School to improve his technique. Before that, his father was his teacher. Many years after, John William Waterhouse exhibited his work in Royal Academy and Dudley Gallery.

Unlike many artists, Waterhouse is one of the rare painters who became popular and reasonably well-off when he was alive. He married with Esther Kenworthy in 1883. However, they didn't have any children. Most Waterhouse's Oil paintings were dedicated to the female genre and Roman Mythology. He had a notorious influenced of Lawrence Alma-Tadema and Frederic Leighton. Art's lovers can appreciate these artworks in the most important England museums. Despite suffering from increasing frailty during the final decade of his life, John Waterhouse continued painting until his death from cancer in 1917.
