Hans Holbein “the Younger” (born 1497 – died November 1543) was a German artist and printmaker who worked in the Renaissance style. Holbein developed most artworks when he lived in Basel among 1528 to 1532. His period in England also was productive. Holbein’s fame is mainly as a portraitist. Several of his portraits have become cultural icons like Henry VIII. Among his main works we can mention the following: Bonifacius Amerbach (1519), Portrait of Thomas More (1527), Portrait of a Lady with a Squirrel and a Starling (1527–28), Portrait of the Merchant Georg Gisze (1532), Portrait of Jane Seymour (1537), Edward VI as a Child (1538), Portrait of Anne of Cleves (1539) and Jane Small (1540).
