Choosing Fabulous French Furniture For Rooms In Your House
We have been fortunate enough to find our dream home. It’s a fabulous detached two-storey chateau style house with fantastic gardens and everything we dreamed of. We’ve always liked France, the French way of life, different styled houses they live in so it was great to find something similar in the UK.
We decided to furnish our home with chic French furniture. Tables, chairs, sofas and bedroom furniture, not forgetting a wonderful Parisian style kitchen, helped to create the atmosphere we were looking for. My husband and I researched different styles of houses before choosing the right one and signing the necessary legal documents. For us bungalows were a bit plain, we didn’t like semi detached and both don’t like apartments.
Moving in day came and our furniture arrived. For our bedroom we opted for muted colours. The furnishings are both romantic and dreamy. I just love the upholstered bed we chose and have piled it high with embroidered cushions. We decided to have soft lighting in the form of roman glass lamps and although a bit risqué, a cheval mirror. This matched the hand-painted wardrobe with its filigree design and also the dressing table.
For our dining room we thought French country style would look extremely good. We bought a French oval dining table with carved leg chairs. I would call this room shabby chic but classical at the same time. I just couldn’t resist the distressed hand-finished, tall wire-fronted cabinet, which is great to show off my china.
As the lounge is the most used and important room in the entire house, we took our time regarding furniture and accessories. Finally we agreed on a contemporary combination with leather sofas, chrome bubble lights and vintage style chandelier. I just adore this room and when the French windows are open, it is heaven on earth.
We treated ourselves to a beautiful ornate iron bench to put in the garden under the trees. Since I am a keen gardener, I planted several lavender bushes in this area to add a touch of France to the outdoors. The perfume is incredible when the bushes are in full flower, I usually dry the plants to make into pot pourri which I have dotted around the house.
Now back to the furniture. The huge hallway has a black and white ceramic tiled floor, absolutely ideal to stand furniture on. We found the perfect piece which is our pride and joy, a French bureau made from weathered natural oak. It’s the centrepiece of the house, a most eye-catching piece of furniture.
Our daughter adores her bedroom too. In fact she helped to choose her wonderful hand-carved and painted dressing table. Her French bed has a delicate cream canopy over it which makes a lovely centrepiece for the room. We all looked at French furniture via the internet, it certainly helped us to make our purchases easy. I can fully endorse a great furniture company online where we bought our goods from.
