Little faces haunt this graphic artist as she works in her office at home. Most of the time spent at home is used up for work that just seems to lack color. She was being watched by four dogs and four cats through a screened door.

It was those faces that gave this graphic artist a new career path. She was on her way to visit her parents when she thought of her animals and started to paint their pictures. She tries to find colors that suit the personalities of the animals and then uses them for their portraits.

She paints with the goal of capturing the animal's essence on canvas. With different colors, I can paint the animal's personality and looks. In Mississippi, she painted a mixed breed, which was her first painting. Red was the color of the dog which did not leave their side.

She painted her dog green because he's jealous of the other animals. The painting of animals using nontraditional colors was also done by an artist before her. A cajun artist created an icon in 1984 when he painted his first blue dog, a haunting pale blue canine with red eyes, inspired by his dog who died in 1980.

The blue dog stands out in her paintings like a stamp on an envelope. The artist is haunted by the ghost that he views in the pictures he painted, even if people see the blue dog paintings with much amusement. The basis of each comical painting is actually one of deep spiritual connotation. The dog, looking at us, makes us aware of questions that we have asked ourselves for ages.

She wants the art to be a reflection of the animal's essence. She tries to mirror their actions using different patterns and vibrant hues. The animals, which she now owns, were either in the shelters or wandering the streets. One of the dogs she adopted kept on going to other people's houses from a neighbor's house.

By placing colorful fliers in veterinarian offices, she marketed her pet portraits. Her clients should give her photos of the animals and also a description of the personality of the animal, she explains. The colors are determined by her understanding of the animal. These portraits she makes are not just ordinary portraits for the customer's satisfaction, the owner said.

Bright yellow paint used on her portrait perfectly portrayed her energy. Portraits will be appreciated by people who know the subjects in the pictures, said a gallery owner. Appreciating a portrait is a separate idea from simply looking at the portrait.
