Have you been finding lately that your PC just randomly closes down without any warning? If that sounds liem you then I'm glad you've found this article, because this article is going to help you to speed up your PC. First I'm going to talk about processor temperature, then RAM errors, background software, and finally the registry.

Overheating CPU

One reason why your PC may be randomly shutting down is that your processor might be getting too hot. Some music and video programs can really hog the processor's power, and this can cause it to get too hot.

The best way to check to see if your processor is getting too hot is to download a handy little piece of freeware called Speedfan. You can find this simply by searching on Google. If your processor temperature is above 60 degrees, then that means trouble. One thing you can do to remedy it is to open your PC's case and clean the dust from the fan, as sometimes a build-up of dust can cause the fan not to cool the CPU as effectively.

Failing RAM

If a hot CPU turns out not to be the cause of your PC shut down woes, then the next thing to do is to take a look at your RAM, as this could be causing a problem. As a text, try removing one of your RAM modules and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then you will need to replace that memory.

Background Software

Another thing to consider is that you may have software running in the background which could be causing problems. If you want to test this by disabling programs that load at Windows startup, then try running a program called MSCONFIG, which you can run via the Windows start menu and typing it into the search or run box.

In MSCONFIG, go to the Startup section, and de-select any software that you are confident that you definitely don’t want to run at startup. Warning: Do not disable any programs that you’re not sure about.
